Nijmegen Day 3

22.55
Another day gone by, how quickly it all goes by.
David has been on ECMO since 12.30am and he is already becoming a bit more stable. They will change little on the ECMO for the next 2 days, just to get/keep him completely stable for a while.
Anyway, David is lying quietly and we are really starting to bond with him already. He responds to our voices and touch and that is sooo particularly cool. Every now and then he moves his eyelids slightly and sometimes he twitches his mouth. He is so sweet 🙂

12.30u
The operation was successful, David is now on ECMO. The doctors were very satisfied with how the operation went.

Now it is important that David becomes stable so that ECMO can be tapered off again. Once that is the case, he can have surgery on the open diaphragm.
For now, we are relieved, even if it is still tense.

How special it is that so many people are praying and sympathising with us. We believe that God hears and besides that it is also incredibly encouraging. Thank you so much!

10.00u
Last night David had a tough time. We thought this morning, no news is good news, but the nurses had deliberately put us to sleep because they were working hard to get him stable.

At 10.30am, David will undergo surgery on the ECMO be laid. This is because his veins in the lungs are cramped and absorb almost no oxygen. If they kept him on regular ventilation now, he probably wouldn't make it. The ECMO is a last "resort" because at the moment they have no other way to stabilise him. But this is therefore not without danger.

It is an exciting operation because they are going to work with arteries. In this treatment, among other things, 1 artery is sacrificed going down the neck to the brain. So the other artery must continue to do well.

Will you join us in prayer?

This text has been in my head for some time for you guys:

marcus 11: 23 and 24

I assure you: if anyone says to that mountain, "Come down from your place and plunge into the sea", and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will happen. Therefore I tell you: everything you pray and ask for, believe that you have already received it,and you will receive it.

Hi Darlings,

We are thinking a lot of you and praying for a physical breakthrough in David's recovery.

Hug and bless, Carlos and Antoinette

PS We just want to encourage you with the Revival song 581(Lift me up)

I want to be very close to You,
like a child in the father's lap.
I want to be very close to You;
That's where I belong.

Lift me up, take me in your arms.
Lift me up, hold me close to You.
Lift me up, I want to embrace You.
Lift me up and don't let me go again.

Carry me through the deep water,
Where I can no longer stand myself.
In your arms I am safe,
When You carry me,
If I can't go any further.

I may be very close to You,
like a child in the father's lap.
I may be very close to You;
That's where I belong.

And You lift me up, take me in Your arms.
And You lift me up,
holds me close to You.
And You lift me up, I may embrace You.
And You lift me up
And don't let me go again.

Dear mum and dad. First of all, congratulations on your beautiful David! i work at the eo. What you are going through is very recognisable because our baby was born 7 weeks ago in the r'dam hospital because of a similar condition (he is doing well now, as far as we know!). I sympathise intensely with you! In the first week after his birth, a friend sent us the following Bible text for our son. Very encouraging for us!

Ps.57: Be merciful to me God, be merciful to me, for with You my life is secure. In the shadow of Your wings I will take shelter, until the danger of death has passed.

I wish you lots of peace, strength and courage.

Greetings Martineke Poppe

Psalm 16: A silent prayer of David

from verse 7
I praise the LORD who gives me insight,
Even in the night, my conscience speaks.
8 Always I keep the LORD in mind,
With him by my side I do not falter.

9 Therefore my heart rejoices and my soul rejoices,
my body feels safe and sheltered.
10 You will not deliver me to the kingdom of the dead
And do not let your faithful servant see the grave.
11 You show me the way to life:
abundant joy in your presence,
forever a sweet spot by your side.

there came a lion, there came a bear,
