Nijmegen Day 5

22.15u
David has been doing well all day and they are still phasing out the ECMO support. They do notice at the moment that he is struggling to self-expand his lungs because of his open diaphragm, so he is getting some extra ventilator support. But the lungs do seem to be absorbing the oxygen well, which is very good news. If he continues like this, they may be able to operate on his diaphragm sometime early next week.

We just got back from David and got to give him a little breast milk for the first time too, on a cotton swab. You should have seen Marieke 🙂

Our little guy is doing extremely well and we are loving him more by the minute. We're very tired now though so we'll stop there for now....

07.22u
We called just after pumping to see how David was doing. He had such a good night that they have already started tapering off the ECMO. A little less every hour so his lungs have to add more and more oxygen to the blood and absorb carbon themselves with the help of the ventilator. But his blood gases remain stable so it seems the blood vessels in his lungs are in the process of opening or are open. He has even started urinating better and his temperature is also good. What news to wake up to 😀

We are trying to get some sleep now because we could really use it, but I don't know if that will really work 🙂 .

Wow, what good posts!!! I can so imagine that it is so good David to give you milk, to be able to give the best nutrition to your son as a mother. We keep on praying , surely God cannot fail to bless at such unanimous pleading? Enjoy God's closeness and your son, we pray that God will stand by you in David's difficult moments and also when you cannot be close to David.Kind regards from Carla van Osnabrugge.

Dear Nathanael and Marieke,

How wonderful that David is doing so well!!! Eagerly looking forward to an update, and then to read good news is very nice!

You guys are crackers! Seems difficult to see your sweetheart lying like that on the ventilator, but certainly very nice to know that things are getting better! I really hope and pray that the operation will also go well and that your strong David will soon be completely healthy again!

I am praying with you and secretly enjoying the good news you tell us too!

Hang in there!
Sleep well
and
ENJOY your guy!

Love Famke

What good news on this Sunday morning.
Today too we are thinking of you and praying for you again.

I was very much reminded of revival 710 this morning.

Bless me on the way I have to go.
Bless me where I will stand
Bless me in everything You desire of me
O God bless me all the days.

Father bless me, do not pass me by
rain on me with you Spirit Lord
Jesus comes to me, as the source of life springing up deep within me
Bring a stoorm of blessing, in which You Yourself become ever more beautiful to me.

Much strength again for today.
