Family Tuesday and fruit snacks
A lot happened again last week.
Yesterday we walked around the king(inne) market as a family. How wonderful to be able to do that like that. We are really starting to enjoy being a family more and more. Gideon is growing well and has gained over 700gr in the past 4 weeks. We feel that he is really catching up, both in terms of growth and development. And he has almost stopped spitting up in the past week! How lovely.
Marieke is still pumping fanatically and the feedings (800ml a day) are keeping up reasonably well. But it is starting to get harder for her, both physically and mentally. On the one hand, the beauty that breast milk is the best thing she can give Gideon. But on the other, the unnaturalness of having to pump it down and then give it to him by tube. If it doesn't work any more, or the feeding goes down, we'll just switch to artificial milk, but as long as it still works she wants to go all the way. ( I'm super proud of her! )
We have started fruit and vegetable snacks since a week. Because Gideon did not do anything with the bottle at all after the 3rd operation, we have now given that up (also on the advice of speech therapy). He still gets all (mother's) milk through the tube now, but we are focusing on snacks and eventually drinking from a cup so that he will then no longer need the tube. This will take a few more months, but now we have another goal to focus on.

Yes indeed handsome of Marieke! Pumping for so many months.... Respect! Lovely that you are getting more and more used to being a family. It suits you so well and enjoy admiring you - whether remotely or not - as mummy and daddy. X

Dear Kanjers,
What a lovely and sweet little man you have....
Lovely to hear his noises for a while this morning....
It is really becoming a male already.
Especially brave and courageous of you Marieke that you still go for your "breast milk" despite everything. No matter how contradictory it is sometimes. We pray that the snacks will go well and that Gideon will soon be able to switch from tube to other drinks and food. Then he will grow even faster:) We also pray for new energy and strength. Know that we are around you.
love and a hug from the three of us

Well Marieke you really have quite a task with that pumping, but a rewarding one. And trying to be so relaxed about it, as I read in your blog. Glad you enjoyed a special day as a family yesterday. The three of you are great guys. What a nice photo of the brave little guy. Love and in prayer and thoughts with you.

What a beautiful little man with a wonderful smile! How much you will enjoy your son immensely! Now already, and in the future! Very clever that Marieke keeps pumping so much. I know what it's like... Not easy! You are wise to consider what is best for Gideon and for you as a family. Gideon is lucky to have such parents!

Wow Mariek what respect you have for keeping up that pumping. And how wonderful that how is making such a growth spurt. Really good to hear. I also enjoyed you so much on Sunday when you were sitting in front of me. How lovely to see you together like that. And what a wonderful heart-warming smile he has. It touches me again and again to see the three of you together, really moving. I wish you all the peace and quiet you could possibly wish for. And especially a lot of enjoyment together. I pray that a time will come when you will have as little trouble as possible and that you will fully recover emotionally and physically. All three of you are the best. Big hug
