Gideon day 12

11.20u

We slept well. And Gideon had a reasonably restful night. After 8 hours on the low flow, they put him back on the CPAP to give him a bit more support when breathing. He still has to work pretty hard to keep up with everything and breathes a lot. His heart rate is also quite high. This could all have to do with kicking off the morphine, but at the moment we also don't know exactly how much lung capacity he has to work with.

Just when I had him on my lap for a moment and he had just had his feed, he threw up and was all upset again. Partly because of this, they cancelled this afternoon's examination for now. To give him a bit more rest.

We are still at the hospital now and have an appointment with our contact doctor in a moment.

All in all, it's taking it a bit easier with Gideon. At least until he is completely off the morphine.

22.20u

Thankfully, Gideon is back to his old self. Nice and quiet and when he needs to cry, he is easy to comfort. What a difference from yesterday and this morning. Too bad he's on medication, but nice that it's better for him at the moment, and really improving. Now they are going to reduce the morphine more slowly to prevent him from reacting so violently again.

Marieke did get to baby-sit with him for a bit tonight and you just sense that Gideon belongs there. With mummy. His heartbeat and breathing become a lot calmer and his oxygen is fine.

This morning, when Gideon was still restless, we had deliberately put the camera on "grey" for a while. So that when we were in the RM house we didn't worry about looking at the cam to see if everything was going well. We realise that we have to be careful not to let gauges, values and other monitors determine how we feel. That's not healthy... Gideon is still doing well, and although we still have a way to go and it can still be quite tough, there is a hopeful future.

How nice to be able to read your posts to sympathise and pray. Lovely that Gideon is progressing so well and that you can enjoy him. At the same time, he is still so vulnerable and small. I can so imagine when he is restless you get restless too. How clever and admirable that you hold on to the hopeful promise for Gideon. I wish you peace and quiet, all three of you. And that you can take him home with you in a little while. What a great celebration that will be. We wish you this prospect so much!

By the Father on the lap that's where I belong You lift me up etc. This song came in after reading your blog.
You crawl on the Father's lap, Gideon with you and so a beautiful family with Papa, secured under His cover. X

How nice that Gideon is doing better, now that they are taking it easy on him! And not surprising that it affects and concerns you so much how Gideon is doing. As a mum and dad, there is nothing that affects you as much as your child's well-being! I hope you can enjoy all the beautiful moments with your son again tomorrow!

Darlings,
we are very close to you in everything, you know that.
We so want all moments to be prosperous.
He has already taken so many steps forward! We are so grateful with you for that. Now it seems to be a moment of pause.
This morning I listened to a speech by Corrie Ten Boom where she said, among other things:

'When the worry spirit knocks at the door, I ask the Lord Jesus to go to the door, and when He opens it's already gone!'

Big fat kiss,
Mum
