Gideon day 137 - Home again!

We are home. How wonderful to be back in our own environment with the three of us. The hospital already seems like a blur in the memory. After the surgeon looked at Gideon, there was no reason to stay any longer, so we immediately set off. Marieke had already packed everything in the car this morning that was in the RMHuis so we could also go right away when we arrived at the car with Gideon. Then Marieke drove us home while I sat in the back seat with Gideon.
Surely it has gone quickly again. It is only 11 days after the operation, and we can already go home. Gideon still has to gain a lot of strength and recover, but he is apparently well enough to be allowed home again. And we also feel confident about taking him home again. Although it will take some getting used to change the hospital rhythm back to our own. But at our own pace and in our own way.
Back home, we had a nice shower ourselves and immediately (at 3pm) put on our pyjamas/home suit. Just relaxing for the rest of the day. Lounging on the couch with Gideon on our chests, because now we can do that again. For the first time in two weeks, a bit of peace and quiet.
We were a bit shocked to see how thin Gideon has become now. He was already not very full, but when we gave him a bath this afternoon, we could only see what the past 2 weeks had done to him. Thin arms and legs, all the vertebrae in his back are visible, and you can count his ribs. He started gaining a bit of weight the last week at home before we had to go back to hospital. But now today , 4 and a half months old, he still only weighs 4790gr (birth weight 3400gr, and he is now 62cm). Hopefully he will start growing a bit of baby fat from now on.
We did have another fun moment on the way home from the hospital. Of the 700 mp3s on the usb stick that was on shuffle, what blared through the speakers the moment we turned onto the motorway and switched on the sound? The song we have been singing to Gideon every night since the 12-week ultrasound until now. "The Lord blesses you, and He protects you. He shines His light over your life. He will be gracious, and very near to you. He will give His peace to you". We find that an encouragement and a nod from God.

Gideon just got his food behind his yet-to-be molars and the surgeon looked at him and approved him.

Wow ! great to read your report ! I am very grateful that everything is behind you and that you are now recovering at home! It was a rough time for all three of you. How super that Gideon is back home!!!! We have lived with you again this time in hospital, even if we don't always let you know. Cool, that song in the car: I also sang that song to Judah at bedtime for over a year. Only now.... now he wants to hear other songs (David with his garland), haha!
