Gideon day 3

07.30u

Gideon got through the night fine again. All his levels remained super good. And we suddenly realised last night that the first 24 hours had already passed. That is what we were initially dreading as well, because according to the doctors the first 24 hours are very decisive for such a little one about how he will do for the rest. And because the first night with David was so bad.

But these 24 hours have come and gone and it has gone very well. We are grateful.

11.20u

This morning they took out 1 of Gideon's tubes that was in his nose (the aspirator to suck out excess mucus) and replaced it with a very thin tube just in case. The doctor felt it was no longer necessary to leave the standard tube in as it was not actually needed. They also stopped morphine and dormic completely as Gideon doesn't seem to be suffering from anything. What wonderful news!

This could also mean that Gideon will wake up a bit more. We are very curious to see what that will be like. His little nose is also a bit less stuffed up now and is getting its own shape back a bit.

There is a good chance that the surgery to "fix" the diaphragm will be scheduled on Monday, but that is not final yet and we will probably only hear at the last minute whether it will actually happen.

They still don't quite know what's wrong with the oversized right kidney, but that will be looked at after surgery. He is now on antibiotics for that.

All good news and that actually takes some getting used to, but gradually it is starting to land with us that Gideon is doing just fine. Not taken the maxicosi for nothing in faith 🙂

22.30u

Because Gideon is now no longer receiving morphine and dormicum, he is slowly waking up a little more. Every now and then he moves an arm or a leg and today he also opened his eyes for the first time (since just after delivery)! We also got to nurse his mouth for the first time and give him some breast milk on a cotton swab. How much we enjoyed those moments!!!
We are so proud of our little man, he is doing so well!

Tomorrow we have to be out of our room at the hospital by noon, and we will go to the RonaldMcDonald house. A little inconvenient to be further away from Gideon, but how nice that there is a place for us again.

We enjoy every moment with Gideon. Sometimes it is quite confronting, especially when beeps go off. But, we mostly sit with a big smile at Gideon and we are constantly filled with joy and gratitude.

Dear treasures,
What good news to read!!!
Glad you write so much about how you are doing :)
What a beautiful little fellow Gideon is! Hopefully he will wake up more soon, so you can also see his eyes and the smacking movements that such a little one can make so beautifully. We continue to pray for your little man's speedy and good recovery. May the day come soon that you can hold and cuddle Gideon and that you can drive home in a (short) while WITH a full maxicosie and use the beautiful room and all his little things.
Big hug from us Crayons
