Gideon day 4 (1st time on lap)

07.20u

We slept reasonably well. A lot of tiredness still needs to be slept out. We are tired, but we feel fine.

Marieke just pumped 52ml so that's going like clockwork.

Gideon had another good night, but he was a bit restless. Because the morphine and dormicum were completely stopped, he became more and more active, but that is still not very helpful. He also had a bit more mucus in his lungs which meant they had to suck it out a bit more often, which also makes him restless again. So they eventually started the morphine again anyway (low amount) to make him a bit more comfortable and thus a bit calmer. After that, he was doing well.

15.15u

Marieke fired...

From the hospital...

We are now sitting comfortably in a room in the Ronald Mc Donald house (room 1.5). It's strange to be here again, but it does feel familiar. Further away from Gideon again, but still close.

Having sorted everything out in the room and rested for a while, we headed back to Gideon.

11.20u

Just back from Gideon. Were we just there, the carer asks at one point; have you had a hold of him yet? Would you like that?

You don't have to tell Marieke that a second time. We didn't think we would be allowed to do that already... Next, me and two other carers together carefully lifted Gideon from his cot and then carefully placed him on Marieke's arm. What a special moment! Tears of emotion and happiness. She sat like this for 45 minutes with Gideon on her arm. Gideon continued to sleep very peacefully and his values remained very good. How much we enjoyed it together!

When we had carefully lifted Gideon back and he was lying comfortably again, Gideon's carer suddenly says; "You just missed it, but when Gideon was lying with Marieke there was a really nice big rainbow outside..."

Wow, she had to know...

22.00u

Full day. Moving from hospital to RM home, holding Gideon AND seeing his eyes at the last minute. Just before we went back to our room, Gideon opened his eyes. Another special moment with our beautiful boy. And what beautiful eyes.

Time goes so incredibly fast. When we think back to today, it feels like yesterday that we "moved" into another room or that it was yesterday that Marieke got to hold Gideon for a while. This is a weird, beautiful, bizarre, special time.

No definitive word yet on any surgery tomorrow. We will let you know as soon as we know. This will be another exciting bump to the future.

Now Marieke will pump some more milk and then we will go to sleep.

Oh yes, just to respond briefly to the question of whether I am doing well. Yes, I am also doing well. I can really honestly say that I am doing well. My heart is calm and in fact it has been so every moment since we got here. Even during the tense moment between Marieke and Gideon. I notice that God gives me that calm because sometimes it is literally beyond my understanding how you could stay calm at such a moment....

I enjoy Marieke and Gideon intensely. Proud daddy indeed 🙂
