Gideon in hospital
Gideon unfortunately currently resides in the WKZ...
He was in Zeist on Wednesday with Rosalie and family to a play park for some fun because it is holiday. But he fell very hard on his left side while romping there after which he urinated blood. My sister immediately took him to a local GP, who sent him to the A&E at the WKZ. Meanwhile, I was also at the scene and drove with him to the WKZ as it was only 10min from there and faster than waiting for an ambulance.
After a ct-scan at the WKZ, the left kidney was found to be ruptured which explained the blood. One rib was also broken, but it fortunately shot back by itself. Gideon must stay in the WKZ to keep an eye on him and to be able to intervene quickly should the bleeding become more severe, his HB drop too much or his blood pressure become too high.
Medically it is reasonably stable, but Gideon had a really rough first night. A lot of pain, nasty medical procedures, not really being able to move because of the catheter, drip that kept jamming, beeps and restlessness. Fortunately, I can sleep in Gideon's room. It's nice to be able to stay close to him.
We're back in survival mode for a bit... Not great for the phase we were already in, but it can't be helped. Marieke at home conferring with Nijmegen and then again with Utrecht, discussing with me when we are both available and what is happening, with Rose in the background wanting attention, packing things, arranging a babysitter, driving back and forth, looking each other in the eye, taking care of Rosalie who is also sick, staying patient, informing people. And me with Gideon in hospital getting through it all and holding him as much as possible and letting me squeeze during the intense moments.
It never ceases to amaze me how fast time goes by in hospital. Everything else completely passes you by. Only he is important at that moment. We are very grateful for now that it doesn't seem more serious, but also quite shocked and sad that Gideon has to go through this again.
Not much change today but the ultrasound shows a good picture of the inside. Now the main thing is to wait until the blood is completely gone from the urine and he remains stable enough to go home.
For now, we go for a good night for all of us, and a new day tomorrow 💪
Ah how sad this is!!! What should have been a nice day turned into a day of terror and pain! I hope things will get better soon!
Dear Gideon, Nathanaël and Marieke,
