Gideon is born!

I slept reasonably well. Marieke not so much. After a quiet night in terms of contractions, back on the CTG to monitor Ukkie's heartbeat and register any hard contractions. Just now, the midwife checked whether anything had changed during the night and "we are now at over 2 cm". Basically enough to break the membranes "manually" but they wanted the uterus to be just a bit more prepared before doing so.
We are hopeful it will happen today 🙂

We are now at 3cm and the membranes have just broken (manually) and so the contractions are starting to get stronger. But Marieke is now also receiving IV contractions triggers so it won't be very long now. Also, a wire is now attached to ukkie on his head to measure his heartbeat more accurately.
Now they both go to work hard for the drilled

He is born! Gideon Kaleb ter Borg. It went really fast from 3am onwards with lots of contractions and such so no update in between, but Gideon was born and he is doing well. He cried briefly before going on the ventilator and is now stable on the ward with very little oxygen.
But Marieke lost 1700cc of blood and has now been rushed to the OR. I don't know how she is doing yet.
Hence, so far briefly and concisely. Please pray for her and us

Marieke is doing well. There was still a piece of placenta left behind so the uterus didn't close and blood just kept coming. She was operated on and given extra blood so fortunately it was not too bad.
I am now going to get her from the recovery room and together we will go to our own little room we have been given so we can get ready to go to Gideon. She has yet to see him after the delivery.

We are now sitting in our room to let everything sink in for a while. Marieke has just been on the bed with Gideon. The midwife did not allow her to get off the bed. Gideon is stable on the ventilator. They had some trouble inserting IVs, but eventually they succeeded.
At 2pm we were at over 4cm and by 3pm we were at 7cm. After a lot of contractions in a row (every other minute because of the drip), things went very fast from 2pm onwards. When it finally came to pushing, it was successful after 3 press contractions (10 min). Gideon was born at 16.43h and immediately gave a few cries. He was immediately taken away to be put on a ventilator.
I went (as with David at the time) with him to the room next door and Marieke's mother came to help Marieke with the final touches. This only went a little differently so. Suddenly I was standing with my son on one side where they were busy getting the artificial respiration going and getting him stable, and on the other side suddenly there were 10 men around Marieke's bed with all sorts of alarms and beeps. And Marieke with a pale face.
She was then taken to the OR within 10 minutes where she eventually woke up in recovery after undergoing surgery and losing 2 litres of blood stably.
Still, we look back on a special day where calm prevailed. Marieke had been able to cope with everything with a lot of rest until the last really intense contractions. And of course the final birth. What a beautiful little fellow and how proud we are of him already. We had already heard from several nurses that he is a real fighter. We had also noticed that in the belly 🙂 .
Now we are going to spend some time reading through the responses together. Huge thanks for your support and prayers. We find it very special. We look forward to the future, with Gideon.
