Nursery

It has just been three months since we last wrote an update. There wasn't really anything new to report because last period went (relatively) normally for us. And because we also forgot about it a bit 🙂 ...

Gideon was first sick/spit-free for a month and a half, the longest period so far. Then a week of unexplained fever (without spitting up). Then another month healthy, followed by a week of spitting up. And until yesterday, he was completely healthy again for 3 weeks but is now feverish and spitting up again.

A fairly normal 3 months for us, with a big change recently. Gideon to the nursery. Because Marieke has to go back to work and is busy looking for a job, we wanted to let Gideon get used to a day-care centre beforehand, so that he would be used to it if it was really necessary for him to go there. We have some challenges with Gideon that require extra attention and time from the nursery. Gideon drinks badly, eats liquid and not yet by himself, and is not yet very used to other children. Fortunately, we found a day-care centre nearby where they have smaller groups so they can better help children who need a bit more attention.

He has now been to 4 mornings (1 per week) with varying degrees of success. The first time he was so upset it made him vomit. We had already taken this into account, but we also had to get used to leaving him at home after such an intensive time. But fortunately, things are getting better. A big plus is that he didn't get sick afterwards. That shows us that his immune system has become stronger and he can handle more. Six months ago, he was often sick when he was around other children for a bit longer.

Marieke may have found a job where she can start working from October. We will hear soon whether this will go through permanently. This change will also take some getting used to for her and us as a family, but she is looking forward to getting back to work.
