3 more weeks

Been to Nijmegen again today and everything is stable with our Ukkie.
We had a meeting with one of the neonatologists who will take care of Ukkie after birth. This was very nice. We had a chance to ask any questions about how everything will go after birth and we definitely got some clarification again.

It remains the case that they can only act on how Ukkie will do after birth. As it looks now, he will be taken away immediately after birth and they will put him on a ventilator. We were hopeful that he would be allowed to cry and we would be allowed to see him for a while, but the plan is to stabilise him again first, just like with David. In NICU (the ward where he will lie), once he is stable, we will then be allowed to see our little one from head to toe for the first time.

The doctors have not yet figured out exactly what the problem is. Yes, some kind of Hernia Diafragmatica, but why it is happening to us for the second time and if there is more to it, they are actually more excited than we are. The doctors are very curious to see how Ukkie will do after birth. Even more so for us, of course! J

When we hear again the words ECMO, survival, tapering off, saturation, morphine, long line, stable, surgery, NICU, pulmonary hypertension, 'first 24 hours are crucial', it all gets so exciting again. We know what to expect, and yet not at all. We are grateful that the doctors are trying so hard and will guide Ukkie (and us) super well.

We are looking forward to the little one and for us the last 3 weeks may go by fast now. At the same time, we are also still enjoying all the (loud!!) kicks, stomps and movements Ukkie is making in the belly immensely 🙂 🙂

A children's song came to mind that is really true for us:

Hi Dear Marieke and Nathanael,

How nice to read your message again. We keep thinking of you, Marieke, and I don't like it without you! But I wish you lots of strength and God's blessing in this exciting time! You write that you have a "children's" song in your head, but it is also a song for adults! Love and warm greetings!
