Tissue test results

Spent another half-day in Nijmegen today to check the wound and get more information about the operation and its outcome.

The wound is healing well and will hopefully be fully healed in a few weeks. Gideon has little trouble with it now, except when we change it.

The full results were not in yet, but what they already know is that E.coli bacteria were found. And this is very strange, as this is a bacterium that occurs in the intestines... Again, big question marks for the doctors. The suspicion is that bacteria did get onto the diaphragm patch during the last abdominal surgery (March 2013) due to the bowel perforation that occurred then because of adhesions. The body would then have formed a membrane around the patch where these bacteria became encapsulated. This then started growing until it found a way through the tears in the back muscle, and passed through here. So it is very plausible that this eventually caused the bump that became visible in early 2015.

The suspicion that it has been well "encapsulated" from the start is confirmed by the fact that Gideon has not (been) otherwise seriously ill. We are very grateful for that, because normally a person would get deathly ill from this kind of bacteria in a place in the body where they do not belong.

Now we are going to try to ensure that with several weeks of antibiotics, these bacteria will disappear completely. They hope that this will also make the patch bacteria-free. The doctors themselves still need to think, discuss and investigate further what the policy is going to be. If the bacteria do not go away with the antibiotics, another major abdominal surgery will have to take place. And that would be really, really awful. This would have a huge impact on Gideon, on so many levels.

All we can do for now is keep a close eye on Gideon to see if he doesn't get sick from it. So we are not rid of it yet and are being shaken up again for a while... What if.....

Father God we lean on You and we trust in You whatever happens because we know You are worth it!

Dear Gideon, Marieke and Nathanaël, what bizarre results.
I don't know what I'm reading. But how extraordinary that Gideon is happily just "living" through this. I hope the recovery from the operation will be successful and that it can stay that way.... I wish you courage, strength and toast! Much love, also from Ton. Joke

Dear family, what trials again.
I pray all three of you, rest and peace, though it is so difficult.
But many go to war in prayer and expectation and we may know God is with them
Lots of strength strength and love in taking care of Gideon.
Sweet greetings from me.

Sweet boyfriend!

How nice that things are recovering well now but how annoying that nothing is quite clear yet Every night, mum, dad and I pray for you and that Jesus protects and heals you. We trust in that.

I hope we will play a lot in the near future because that is the most fun. Big hugs for you and your mum and dad! Also from my mum and dad ;-)

Dear Gideon, Marieke&Nathanael, what a day for you. We pray that the medicines will do their job. So that Gideon will not have to undergo another major operation. We also pray for you. May rest and peace descend upon you. Know that God is always with you and carries you through the storms. Big hugs from the three of us!
