Hospital day 8

20.30u
We have big news:
If it continues like this we may go home tomorrow or the day after!!!
Medically, there is nothing left to keep Gideon here and he may continue to recover from the surgery at home.
WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!
Who would have dared to think this. Last week we really feared for his life and this week we are already allowed to go home. We truly believe this is a miracle of God and how grateful we are that things are going this way.
Among other things, the name Gideon means "victor" and this is proven, we have proclaimed this name in faith many times over his life and we believe that victory is a fact. We believe God has a great purpose for Gideon's life and that he will be an inspiration to many.

Grateful and happy, we go into the (hopefully quiet) night!

12.00u
Last night was a good night!
Nathanael slept in the RmcD house last night and I got to stay with Gideon.

At 10pm there was another hour and a half of tummy ache, lots of crying and non-responsiveness. But after the second feeding from the stomach, things improved and Gideon fell asleep with me and I was later able to put him in his cot where he slept until 7am this morning

This morning, we heard from the surgeon that this is very possible. After such major abdominal surgery, patients often spit up for days. But because Gideon has the fundoplication, he can't spit yet now, so it stays in the stomach and that can hurt a lot. That seems to be the cause of the restlessness at night. Fortunately, we still have the gastro catheter and can take the food out if needed.

This morning Gideon received another whole pile of mail, wow! He was totally impressed with it and enjoyed opening each envelope. Thank you all so much!

Other than that, things are really going so well! Gideon is already walking bits and pieces and we have to be careful not to run himself over 🙂 But we only see that as a good sign. A real 4-year-old who just wants to play, run, ride his bike and be wonderfully cocky. We enjoy him and look forward to a full recovery so we can LIVE as a family with a healthy 4-year-old!

Dear Marieke and Ntahanael,
How happy we are that Gideon is doing so much better!
I had not seen that you had made multiple posts on the blog. Silly me.
Gran kept asking how Gideon was doing and I had to say I didn't know.... I will read her your diary entries tomorrow as I have just "caught up" from day 3.
We are really incredibly happy that everything is going so well!
We wish Gideon all the best and hope he can play table tennis again soon! Lots of love from Leende
